Resources for Thessalonians Sermon Series
Beginning Sunday, May 8, we will launch a new series of messages, studies, and discipleship opportunities for Christ Church. Our sermons will lead the church through the marvelous and encouraging letters of the Apostle Paul to the Thessalonians. While our recent studies in John's Gospel pointed our faith back to Jesus the Christ as the new beginning, the new creation, and our new life, these new studies in Thessalonians will point our faith forward, to the promised return of our Lord. We will be challenged to live life today in the light of our sure victory tomorrow. We will learn how desperately important hope is, and why ours is so sure.
But there's one more important thing for you to note about this series. It will serve as a new template for how we hope to shape discipleship at Christ Church going forward. Each week, we will distribute a sermon listening guide, aimed to help you engage God's Word as you worship. And, as we have been doing, we will include some questions on our listening guide to help you apply the Word to your personal life and to your faith community.
But we will also supply each of you with a three hole-punched, full sheet study guide. We strongly encourage you and your family to keep these in a binder and use them to engage God's Word personally through the week to prepare to worship the following Sunday. Each week, these studies will take you deeper into your own heart, deeper into Scripture and historic creeds, and deeper into fellowship with other believers. Youth Pastor Mike Sherburne and Children's Director Sarah Ingram will supply ideas and activities for the younger folks and teens, so that your family can become more and more an incubator for dynamic faith formation.
It is our intent that this combination of resources, including this booklet, will also serve as a guide to our various Community Group discussions. While this has been the pattern for every group at East, the Mandarin groups have to date utilized a diverse list of study and discussion options. We hope all groups will give the new model a try. We are convinced it will deepen your faith, increase our fellowship, and grow our unity. And, not least, it will empower our united service to Christ within our city.
FOR SUNDAY, MAY 8
On our Welcome Desk you will find a stack of Intro to the Sermon Series booklets written by Pastors John and Keith. We encourage you to take one as this will help in your study of this sermon series. We also have boxes of white binders available, we encourage you to take one so you can store your booklet and Sermon Listening Guides from each week. If you have a binder at home that you wish to use, then you do not need to take one (we also ask for a $2.00 per binder donation to help cover the cost of the binders).
If you miss a week, you can revisit this page and download a copy of that weeks Sermon Listening Guide. You can also download the Intro Booklet here as well. We will also post that weeks Sermon Listening Guide along with the sermon audio.
